I was born and raised in West Los Angeles. After graduation from U.S.C. School of Dentistry I moved to Encino where I reside today.

My hobbies include electronics and gardening. I am licensed as a commercial radio operator by the FCC. I have been a ham radio operator since I was 16 years old. I personally built and operate my amateur radio station Wa6hgb. I enjoy speaking with other amateur radio operators worldwide.

As an award winning master gardener, I have become a expert in rare fruits and have written several articles. There are currently 17 varieties of rare fruits from all over the world growing at my home. The USDA has licensed me to import rare plants from all over the world for research and development.

My love is animal rescue. I am proud to have placed 7 abandoned dogs recently. My current pound puppies are Mikey, who we just rescued from the local animal shelter, and Joey. Mikey is a very active mini lab/papillon mix and Joey is a lap loving Corgy. Both are very intelligent and very cute. Both are also very well fed. Photos in my blog.

Academy of General Dentistry

The Academy of General Dentistry
Fellowship in the AGD is today the most recognised designation within the dental community of commitment to continuing education and life long learning and it serves as a model by which to measure professional excellence (Agd1998). Allan Melnick D.D.S. was the first Dentist in Encino and the San Fernando Valley to receive this honor. Recently he was given the honor of Lifetime Fellow of the Academy.

American Dental Association
Dr. Melnick was awarded Life Time Membership by the ADA for high professional standards, community service, commitment to education and contributions to the profession. He is one of a very small group to be so honored.

California Dental Association
Dr. Melnick was selected to be a Life Member because of his dedication to the profession of dentistry. Because of his knowledge and experience the Association has found him as well qualified to mentor new and less experienced dentists.

Community Involvement

Dr. Melnick enjoys being active in the community, especially in today's environmental and conservation issues and organizations such as Save the Bay and the Sierra Club. He is involved not only animal rescue but "people rescue".  Dr. Melnick supports programs for the needy such as the SOVA Food Bank and has worked at local food distribution programs on many occasions.
