The Dental Technician
A critical part of the dental team is the dental technician. Being busy and the labratory procedures themselves very complex, dentists rarely do any of the actual construction of their porcelain restorations.
The most difficult restorations to fabricate are those of porcelain. These require perfection in sizes, color and shape. We are fortunate to have a long standing relationship with Rodin Dental Ceramics.
Owned and operated by Daniel Su, this smaller lab employees only a few master technicians with one assigned to each doctor. The large heavily publicized laboratories of television fame use many technicians. The appearance of the restoration will vary depending on which technician is fabricating the tooth.
We find the personal relationship we enjoy with Rodin invaluable in perfecting our crowns and veneers. Daniel is an artist at heart. His artists touch gives our restorations something extra. They appear more life and natural than most others porcelain restorations that are made without the artist’s eye.
In addition to Rodin Dental Ceramics we also have available the services of Biodent Dental Aesthetics. As with Rodin we have had a long standing relationship with this top notch small lab, owned and operated by Gene Kelterman, a Swiss trained dental ceramist. Trained at the Technical Institute of Bern, Gene is a master of color and form. Over time Dr. Melnick has learned the particular situations where each technician excels. Since Biodent is located only a block from our Encino office, the technician that will fabricate the restoration can easily come to our office to see for himself not only the area of the mouth where the restoration will be placed, but the whole person being cared for. This is a great advantage in creating a restoration that fits the person, not just the tooth. Few Encino dentists are able to offer this extrodinary service.
